How to use it
- Enter your business name, address, tax ID and email, and optionally drop in a PNG or JPEG logo (up to 1 MB).
- Add the customer’s details, set the invoice number, issue date, due date (defaults to 14 days later) and a currency label such as $, € or EUR.
- Add items with a description, quantity, unit price and, where it applies, a tax rate. Reorder or remove rows as needed; the totals update as you type.
- Optionally add a discount, payment details (bank, IBAN, reference) and notes. Check the preview on the right.
- Choose A4 or Letter and press “Create PDF”, then download the file. Save a draft if you want to continue later on this device.
Example
Two items: 10 hours of design at 80.00 with 20% tax, and hosting at 15.50 with 5% tax, plus a 10% discount. Subtotal 815.50; discount 81.55 (80.00 off the design line, 1.55 off hosting); net after discount 733.95; tax = 720.00 × 20% + 13.95 × 5% = 144.00 + 0.70 = 144.70; total due 878.65.
How the totals are calculated
line net = quantity × unit price (rounded to 2 dp)
subtotal = Σ line nets
discount share = discount ÷ subtotal (percent, or a fixed amount capped at the subtotal)
discounted net = line net × (1 − discount share) (rounded to 2 dp)
line tax = discounted net × tax rate (rounded to 2 dp)
total due = Σ discounted nets + Σ line taxesRounding happens per line and per component, then the rounded parts are summed, which is why the printed numbers always add up. The tax summary groups lines by rate and shows the taxable base for each rate. The PDF is drawn with the built-in Helvetica font, which covers Western European (WinAnsi) characters only; any other character is listed in a warning and printed as “?”. A saved draft is a plain JSON copy of the form in this browser’s localStorage; the logo is dropped from the draft if the image data is larger than about 2 MB.
This is a document generator, not accounting software. It does not know any country’s invoicing rules, numbering requirements or tax law, and it is not a certified invoicing system. Check the legal requirements that apply to you before sending an invoice.
Questions
- Is the discount applied before or after tax?
- Before tax. The discount reduces each line in proportion to its net value, and the tax rate of each line is then applied to the reduced amount. A fixed discount larger than the subtotal is capped at the subtotal.
- Can I use a different currency symbol or put it after the number?
- The currency label is free text. One- or two-character symbols ($, €, £) are placed before the amount; three-letter codes such as EUR or USD are placed after it (1,234.00 EUR).
- Where is my invoice stored?
- Only in your browser, and only when you press "Save draft on this device". Creating the PDF happens in the page; nothing is sent to a server. "Clear saved draft" deletes the stored copy.
- Why do some letters show as "?" in the PDF?
- The PDF uses the standard Helvetica font, which has no glyphs for characters outside the Western European set (for example Polish ł, the rupee sign ₹ or Cyrillic). The warning above the Create button lists them; the on-screen preview still shows them correctly.
