How to use it
- Pick the date, or tap a quick pick: Christmas, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Halloween or the next weekend.
- Add a time if the moment matters (a 09:00 exam, a 20:00 kick-off) and a label so the countdown reads “Days until our wedding”.
- Watch the headline day count and the live clock; the rows below give weeks, working days, hours, minutes and seconds.
- Copy the summary or the link – the link carries the date, time and label, so the countdown keeps running for whoever opens it.
Example
On Monday 2 November 2026 at 14:30, Christmas (25 December 2026) is 53 days away. The live clock shows 52 d 09 h 30 min 00 s because it counts to midnight at the start of 25 December; the span is 7 weeks and 4 days, contains 39 working days, and lasts 1,257 hours in total. (Had the 25 October clock change fallen inside the span, the clock would show one hour more – it measures real elapsed time.)
How the countdown is calculated
days until = dayNumber(target date) − dayNumber(today)
time left = target instant − now (days, hours, minutes, seconds; updated every second)
working days = Mon–Fri days after today up to and including the targetThe day count compares calendar dates only, which is what people mean by “how many days until” and is immune to daylight-saving changes. The live clock subtracts two instants in your local time zone and is re-read every second (and whenever the tab becomes visible again), so it never drifts. When the target is today the headline says so; when it has passed, the panel shows how many days ago it was and the time elapsed.
Quick picks resolve to the next occurrence on or after today – on 26 December “Christmas” already points to next year. “Next weekend” is the coming Saturday (today if it is Saturday).
Why there is no Mother’s Day or “first day of summer” button
Mother’s Day is the second Sunday of May in the US, Australia and many other countries, the fourth Sunday of Lent in the UK and Ireland, the first Sunday of May in Hungary and Spain, 8 March in several Eastern European countries and 26 May in Poland. Astronomical spring starts with the March equinox (19–21 March) in the northern hemisphere but in September south of the equator, while meteorological seasons start on the 1st of March, June, September and December. One date picker covers all of these without guessing wrong.

Questions
- How many days until Christmas?
- Tap the Christmas quick pick: the headline shows the calendar days from today to 25 December, and the clock below counts the hours, minutes and seconds to midnight at the start of Christmas Day.
- Why does the clock show one day less than the headline?
- The headline counts calendar days (today → target date). The clock counts the exact time to the target moment, which is midnight at the start of that day unless you set a time – so during the afternoon it shows “52 d 09 h” while the date is 53 days away.
- Can I count down to a specific time?
- Yes – enter it in the time field (24-hour, HH:MM). The link you copy includes the time, and the countdown runs in the viewer’s local time zone.
- Does the countdown keep running in a background tab?
- Yes. Each tick re-reads the system clock instead of counting ticks, so after the browser throttles the tab the display jumps straight to the correct value.
