Q&A

How does the internet speed test works?

Downloading shows the download speed of data to your device, expressed in megabits per second (Mbits). A higher value is always better because the faster the download, the less time you wait to load a web page or to download an email attachment.

2. Uploading speed test

Uploading speed shows how fast you can upload data to the internet with your internet subscription. This value is measured in Mbit/s, too. A higher uploading number is better. The higher the value, the faster you can upload data from your device to the internet.

3. Ping test

Ping measures the time it takes for data to be sent from a host to a destination computer and back again using the internet. It is measured in milliseconds (ms). The lower the value, the better. If you are using the internet for online gaming, this value is very important to you because a quick response from the server when playing is a must. A fast ping is less than 40 ms and anything within the range of 0 to 10 ms is considered a very good result.

4. Jitter test

Jitter expresses the fluctuations of the ping value and, therefore, the stability of the connection. The result (in milliseconds) should be as low as possible. The higher the jitter value displayed in the test, the worse your internet connection stability is.

Frequently asked questions

How does an internet speed test work?

It downloads and uploads sample data between your device and a server, measuring the speed in megabits per second, along with ping and jitter.

What is a good internet speed?

For general use 25 Mbps is comfortable, while streaming in 4K or several users at once benefit from 100 Mbps or more.

What is the difference between download and upload speed?

Download speed is how fast you receive data, like streaming or browsing, while upload speed is how fast you send data, like video calls or backups.

What is ping?

Ping is the time it takes for data to travel to a server and back, measured in milliseconds. A lower ping means a more responsive connection, which matters for gaming.

Why is my speed slower than my plan?

Wi-Fi, distance from the router, network congestion and old equipment can all reduce real speed below the maximum your plan advertises.
