PDF Splitter

Split a PDF in your browser: extract a page range into one PDF, save every page as its own file, or cut the document every N pages and download a ZIP.

How to use it

  1. Drop a PDF onto the box. Its page count and thumbnails appear once it has been read.
  2. Pick a mode: “Extract pages”, “Every page separately” or “Every N pages”.
  3. For an extract, type the pages or click thumbnails to select them. Tick “One file per range” to get each range as its own PDF.
  4. Press the split button and download the PDF or ZIP. The caption shows how many files and pages were produced.

Example

A 40-page scanned contract where only the signature pages matter: enter 1, 38-40in “Extract pages” and download a 4-page PDF. To hand the same contract to three reviewers, choose “Every N pages” with 14: you get a ZIP with contract-part-1-pages-1-14.pdf, contract-part-2-pages-15-28.pdf and contract-part-3-pages-29-40.pdf.

How the splitter works

The document is opened with pdf-lib, and for every output file a new, empty PDF receives copies of the selected pages (copyPages). Fonts, images and vector content travel with each page, so a single extracted page carries the resources it needs and nothing else. Multiple outputs are zipped with JSZip (deflate) before download. Thumbnails come from pdf.js rendering each page at 88 px width on a canvas.

Limits

  • Encrypted PDFs (open password or usage restrictions) cannot be read – unlock them first with the PDF Unlock tool.
  • Bookmarks and form fields are not copied; page content and annotations drawn on the page are.
  • Thumbnails are skipped above 150 pages to keep the page responsive; splitting itself has no page limit beyond memory.

Questions

How do I remove pages from a PDF?
Use "Extract pages" and list the pages you want to keep. For a 10-page file where page 4 should go, enter 1-3, 5-10 and download the 9-page result.
Can I change the page order while extracting?
Yes. Pages are copied in the order you type them, so 3, 1, 2 produces a PDF with page 3 first.
Why do I get a ZIP instead of a PDF?
Whenever the split produces more than one document (every page separately, every N pages, or one file per range), the files are packed into a ZIP so you download them in one go.
Does splitting reduce the quality of scanned pages?
No. Scans are embedded images and are copied byte for byte; nothing is re-compressed.
